I can’t believe that 0-60 time was something they wanted to advertise. For that matter, I don’t understand how you could get a 128HP engine to be that slow? The modern Honda Fit has about the same weight and power (assuming AMC’s number isn’t bullshit), but has a 0-60 around 8.5 seconds.

3 speed automatic and over 2600lbs (fairly heavy for the time). A Civic of the same era was over 19 seconds 0-60, people used to expect small, cheap cars to be slow. And the Gremlin and Civic were both pretty quick compared to the standard Beetle.
